What Is The New Google Wave?
Invitations to the higly anticipated Google Wave has started recently and is on a trial period at this point.
One hundred thousand people will be invited to google’s new social media service. But that number will soon grow exponentially, because each recipient will be able to invite more people.
The invitations are being sent out into 4 groups;the individuals that took action when it was first announced and registered, A portion of google’s paying customers, developers who are testing it,and the collaborative efforts of the prior three groups inviting their friends and others to join. Those invited will be able to invite up to 8 more, but the individuals invited by the first four groups will not be able to extend any invitations. The official full scale launch is not expected until the first half of 2010.
One of the big hurdles they are working to overcome is the language barrier. The wave is currently in english only and the plans are to support all the other languages.
Most people will be using it as a twitter like message where you can interact with others by posting a tweep type message, and it will show up in the inbox of your circle of contacts as an unread message. They are working on a system for you to allow or not allow the senders so that your inbox doesnt get flooded with messages.
The wave is equal parts document and conversation, where people can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, maps, videos, photos, and more. Everyone uses email and instant messaging on the internet now, but imagine if you could bind those two forms of communication together and add a load of functionality on top of it.It makes todays email and instant messaging look antique and outdated.
It basically works like this:You start your wave and invite others to it.All those on your wave will be able to use photos, formatted text, feeds, and even gadget attatchments. You will be able to see what some is typing in your wave almost instantly. And it has a playback feature so you can rewind and study the evolution of the wave.
The Google Wave product is an html 5 web application, built on Google’s Web Toolkit. It will have several functions, one of them being a drag and drop where you can drag a set of pictures and drop them into your wave. If you share photos in a wave with several other people, from the moment you drag the photos into the wave on your side, your friends can see the thumbnails of them on their computer screen. Everyone in the wave can collaborate to change the titles of the pictures, and you can view things like a slideshow of the images.
If you manage a blog, you could post a blog into your wave and share with the public and allow others to see what you and the other people in your wave are doing. And these visitors to your blog could even join in as well right from your blog, and all the information would be placed right into the original wave. This will bring a whole new level of interractive communication.
The real question is how are people going to profit from this? If you would like to find out more about the Google Wave just sign up for my free E-books and tips newsletter and you will get weekly indepth updates on the WAVE.
