It seems like every day Twitter is in the news. First it was MySpace, then Facebook, and now Twitter is the rage. Google is even thinking about buying it.

Just this week Ashton Kutcher challenged CNN to see who could get to one million followers first. Mr Punked won that race. Now Ashton does not need the money from his Twitter followers but most of us do. So the question is, Is it possible to make money using Twitter?

If you have a lot of followers on Twitter, then it is possible to make money. Right now I only have 17 followers so I need to focus on building up my following before I can make money. But once I gain enough followers to make it worthwhile I can begin recommending products or services that I use. This is known as affiliate marketing. Most companies have programs which enable someone to earn a cut of the sale if the sale comes from their link. Amazon is the most famous for this.

Affiliate marketing is becoming more popular on Twitter. You will need to put your affiliate link in your tweet. It is best to shorten your affiliate link URL. There are free services on the net that will do this . Even better than affiliate marketing is selling your own product. That way you get all of the commission.

One thing you do want to remember is that if you are going to make money then you need to not waste too much time twittering non business stuff. You need to separate your business and social life.

Twitter is a fast growing social network. Affiliate marketing and selling your own products are two ways to make money on twitter. Im sure there are many other ways that people are thinking of. I think first I will catch up to Ashton and then I will begin to make the big bucks!
