Proper Facebook Etiquette For Your Business – Facebook Manners

Social Networking in Plain English

Let me start out by saying that I am known for being a straight-talker, and that’s how I’m gonna be in this post. I’m not gonna sugar coat it, so if you want the truth and like the truth, read on. If you get easily offended, quit reading.

Twitter is by far and away one of the best freaking ways to promote your business you can find. Seriously. If you’re not on Twitter, go sign up. But I’ll let ya know right now that there are a lot of nitwits on Twitter. Trust me, you DON’T want to look like a nitwit. Here’s how to avoid that:

Naaaahhh… but one must realize that this social movement requires you to learn some Facebook manners! (especially if you’re looking to do any marketing on Facebook or if you’re trying to make money with Facebook).

So what’s this “Facebook Etiquette” thing all about?  Well, it might be easier to start by talking about what NOT to do on Facebook so you can avoid getting labeled as a “spammer” or as so many people call them today an “idiot marketer”.  To remain in what many “Facebookers” would call appropriate Facebook marketing etiquette, DO NOT:

Given the vastness of the online world and potentially limitless number of audience members, the idea of social media marketing is an appealing one. Marketing through social media should be thought of as a viable option when you consider the fact that the most affluent consumers are the most likely to be influenced by media when it comes to the selection of home repair services. In general, online reviews and opinions have begun to play a large part in swaying the decisions of many consumers on a myriad of services and goods.

If you’re getting hit with hard with marketing messages by people that you’ve met on Facebook, do these people a favor…

TELL THEM TO STOP! You don’t have to put up with bad Facebook Marketers and poor Facebook Etiquette.  What I suggest, you tell people is… “Hey, we just met.  You’re coming on a little heavy with the marketing.  I’m here on facebook to create relationships and to meet people. Slow down.”

If, however, I get a follow notice from someone who’s last update was in 2008, I’m not likely to follow back. I mean, you got onto Twitter to follow me, so why not update the darn thing?

But Please, Don’t Overshare
Have you ever been to the bar and had a total stranger sit by you and start telling you way too much information? Sometimes people do that on Twitter, too. (I don’t know if they’re drinking while oversharing, but it might be linked…)

And while I do think that people need to actually Tweet every so often, I don’t want to know too much about your life. And you should always be careful about what you put on the web because it’s all indexed and can easily be searched upon
